Unique Nintendo Gaming Item Sells At Auction For $6,000
While most of us would be quite happy to obtain a complete in-box Stadium Events set or one of the Nintendo World Championship cartridges, some hardcore retro gaming collectors go even further, going after items of which only two copies are known to exist. The Nintendo Campus Challenge set has a fun story behind it, but savvy collectors have pointed out that the final selling price actually seems a little low, compared to something like the Legend of Zelda prototype cart. Either the retro gaming collectibles market is in a slump, or this seller just caught a bad break. Well, as bad as $6,000 can be considered, anyway.

Collaborative Geek-Culture Website Old Game Reviewer Closes
You may have never heard of OldGameReviewer.com, but dozens of bloggers used it as another promotional arm for their updates. Thanks to its administrator’s hands-off style, webmasters across the nerd sphere were free to take over OGR and constantly push content onto its main page, which grew to attract dozens of thousands of visitors per month. However, in oddly unceremonious fashion, the site has been closed down. Even its Twitter account @OGR_Blog, which boasted over 10,000 followers, is no longer in use.

Shigeru Miyamoto Turns 60
The man at Nintendo responsible for creating such successful franchise characters as Link, Mario, Donkey Kong, Star Fox, F-Zero, and others recently celebrated his 60th birthday on November 16. Maybe you were not sure how old Miyamoto was, but for context, the game Metroid Prime celebrated its tenth-year anniversary the next day.

Official Angry Video Game Nerd Trailer Released
After months of eager anticipation, the official Angry Video Game Nerd movie trailer hit YouTube a little over a week ago. Click that link and watch it if you have not already, because this early look at the finished movie looks full of promise, with the Nerd’s usual irreverent humor intact alongside a plot centering around his efforts to find the desert where all those E.T. cartridges are buried – much to the suspicion of government forces.

Retro Skate Game Gathering Funds On Kickstarter
Describing itself as a mix of “Double Dragon, extreme skateboarding, and 8-bit graphics,” this Kickstarter game looks interesting, at the very least. The project’s creator, Fryza, even goes so far as to specifically mention the skateboarding level from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game (NES) as an inspiration. Power-ups, skating tricks, boss battles, and music by Danimal Cannon are among the promised features.
Follow-Ups & Quick Hits
Second Quest, the Kickstarter for a new comic book work based on the Legend of Zelda canon, was successfully funded. … I mentioned Hotline Miami in the previous column, but I can now move from a consideration to a recommendation, as I have actually played it for myself now, and it is true: The game is very fun. … Gamester81 posted a video review of Air Fortress on NES on his site, as done by GaminTank. I just think it is worth noting because Air Fortress is a game you hardly ever hear about.
